Changes to UWA College’s English Language Placement Test

23 January 2024

UWA College will be introducing the Versant English Placement Test (VEPT) to replace the current Cambridge English Placement Test (CEPT) from Monday 22 January 2024.

What is the VEPT?

  • A free, 50-minute test that will assess students in four English skill areas: Listening, Reading, Writing and Speaking. The CEPT only tests students in Listening and Reading skills.

  • Can be taken online – students will need to have a microphone (preferably with a headset) and camera while taking the test.

The VEPT will provide a better and more reliable indicator of the student’s English ability and is widely used by many Australian institutions to place students in appropriate English classes.

Request the test by contacting the UWA College Admissions team.

How will VEPT results be used?

VEPT results will be used to package the most appropriate English language course at CELT and cannot be used to meet English proficiency admission requirements. Students who obtain VEPT results that suggest they may be eligible for entry to UWA College will be required to take an official English language test to meet entry requirements.

Students who have already been assigned a CEPT test code will be able to continue taking the test and the CEPT results will still be used to determine the appropriate English language course at CELT. If a student who has already been assigned a CEPT test code would prefer to use the VEPT instead, this request will be accommodated.
